I'd like to join the celebration of Vance's completed life with a couple of 
memories he left.

Pat remarked on his remarkable board work. It was, indeed. He could take 
the Bonhoeffer paper into an RS-1 seminar and emerge with a board that 
people stood around with colored pencils trying to duplicate in their 
notes. You hated to erase it. Of course, it took quite a bit of time to 
produce, and the session was inevitably long past the completion time when 
he finished. (Arguably, the participants were finished long before.) But it 
was a memorable creation, a sign of the artistry of the man who produced it.

Vance's work with The Executive Connection (TEC) also exemplifies his 
passion and entrepreneurship. He's known throughout that network -- the 
Malaysian head contacted me once asking if I knew Vance. It was a very 
positive reference, and he even offered me a position, just based on the 
fact of having known Vance.

It has been years since we've seen him, and the seriousness of his illness 
was not something I knew about. But his postings on the listserves were 
always readable, passionate, and thought-provoking.

As we once said, "His life was pleasing to the Lord."
