[Ruth Landmann]

My memories of Vance go back to when he visited our cadre in 
Watsonville and we all went to see the movie Patton because of his 
talking about it. I think he was with us and lead the discussion 
afterwards.

He also inspired me to take my solitary global odyssey in 1971 before 
I joined the O:E. Before I did that, I led my fifth graders on a 
"trip around the world" based on rice dishes. He sent me several 
authentic recipes from Indonesia. I still use them today.

He was an inspiration.
