I really remember Vance primarily from our days in Australia. He joined
our team of Pierces and Alerdings not long after we arrived fresh from
our wedding in Chicago on Dec. 1, 1968.
He was so energetic and outgoing. He joked with us as we sat around in
the early afternoon (a rare event in itself) in Jim & isabel Bishop's
"lounge room". I particularly remember this room for its blue leather
seats and its TV set. We spent very little time there, but I always
remember Vance being there when I think of those days.
He loved to go out on weekend RSI trips. He wqnted to get "out of the
house", and teaching RSI was really his cup of tea.
Fast forward to Pittsburgh, Vance's house and Ashram (and cats) He
always wanted us to spend the night plus enjoy his escellent cooking! I
will always remember with great affection his showing Bill and me
around his ashram, explaining his treasures (count how many elephants
there were), and where each one came from. Somehow, Vance's spiritual
journey continued from the Order to the ashram.
I also had the pleasure of editing a number of his Xmas and other
writings. I really appreciated his compliments on my work. Also, he
loved his cats and was very proud of them, talking to them constantly.
Vance, have a good rest. You deserve it!
