[Oe List ...] Wanda's trip

Just to add my vote for the relevant actions going on in the U.
Methodist Church. The University Temple UMC here in Seattle is involved
in many progressive actions and study (have you heard of the Living the
Questions video series?). We have been a "Reconciling Congregation" for
10 years, are pursuing building an ecumenical center for worship and
outreach with other university area progressive churches, hosting
countless public meetings ranging from spiritual renewal to protests on
the Middle East injustices, esp. Iraq and actively supporting the
Masai Environmental Resource Coalition in Kenya.
I have chaired and cochaired the Church & Society team for about 9
years. Much of what happens in this UMC is due to such O.E. stalwarts
as Michael and Molly Shaw, Sharon Fisher, Jean Poole ( and until 2004,
Mark Poole) and to 14 years of progressive pastors who are also
biblical scholars. Church renewal is going on....
