Colleagues, all these witnesses about the completed life of Fred Hess  brings 
back my own vivid Summer '66 memories of Fred in that big Room A on  the West 
Side.  He was striking in appearance, articulate in his  responsiveness, did 
not back away from challenges and obviously someone to take  seriously.  It is 
good to learn about his work with  Chicago  schools.   It is good to be part 
of this kind of extended  family.   David Reese
