Some further reflections before I go home and wash the dishes. "For the
first year, the boy chopped wood ....." and "Before enlightnment - chop
wood, carry water. After enlightenment - chop wood, carry water".

1)
"Sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn't. One of my favourite
movies, one that I finally bought on DVD, is John Boorman's "Excalibur".
Did he intentionally repeat the "hand out of the water" scene from
"Deliverance" with the "hand and sword out of the water" scene in
"Excalibur". But one of my favourite scenes are those where Merlin (Nicol
Williamson) and Arthur are together and Merlin is fudging his "magic". In
more recent times I've seen Williamson in Hamlet and so on.

Another scene: Arthur is looking around in despair: "Where's Merlin?"
"Coming out of the background into centre stage he comes, saying "THE (my
emphasis) is here".

2)
I've since found my wedgeblade badge - the small one - that I couldn't find
for R Brian's memorial service. Time to put it on a lapel. Which meaning
shall I understand and speak of? Standing between the no longer and the not
yet? Standing in the middle of the world (or cosmos)? (But not being the
centre of the world!) Or the cosmos swirls around me? Standing in the
midst of time? Dis-establishment linking pro- and dis- ?

3)
The actor Bryan Brown was one of R Brian's students back in his Christian
Brother days. I've decided to send a letter, with a copy of the memorial
service etc, to Bryan. It makes some sense of his involvement in social
justice causes etc.

One of my favourite interviews by Andrew Denton in "Enough Rope" (ABC-TV),
and it may be in one of the three (at last count) books of interviews from
the program, was with Rachel Ward. She suddenly burst into tears when
describing her love for "this wonderful Cath .... Christian man". Denton
has a wonderful way of touching people's soul and affirming their response,
which he did in that interview.

[For 20+ years I've had trouble with expressing emotion. It's been
"psychologistic", or "spilling your guts", or whatever cliche/slogan someone
has wanted to use. It's taking a long time moving on from allowing "pins to
embitter us".]

'Nuff for now

Frank
