Dear Ones,

Thanks to those of you who have been concerned about Fred (McGuire.) This is
new news to some of you, and some of you know Fred has been undergoing tests.
So here's the scoop. When Fred had gall bladder surgery in February, a CT
scan revealed a rather large spot on his right kidney. Now it has been
diagnosed as cancer. He has had no symptoms, and his lungs and bones are
cancer-free, so the treatment is a rather straightforward surgery to remove the kidney.
His kidney function is normal, so he should do fine on one kidney. No chemo
or radiation is required. He is in good spirits. Your fervent prayers are
solicited and greatly appreciated.

Surgery is scheduled for July 18. He'll be in the hospital five days to a
week.

I am so gratified that I'll be able to go to my annual retreat with the Wise
Wild Women in Washington. I fly out of Fresno July 6 and return July ll.
Fred will stay with our sons Pat and Scott and their families while I'm gone/

Feel free to reply with your questions or issues. It might help us to
clarify our thinking. Dr. Dwivedi, the urologist we're working with, said USC and
UCLA are probably the best research centers on the west coast, and he'd be
glad to refer us there. But right now, I'm thinking the simplest thing is best,
and that would be to go ahead with the surgery as it's scheduled locally.

May our Creator continue to bless us abundantly, and to help us be aware of
how precious is our existence, in life and in death.

Love to you all,
Jann
