Two of the recent foreign films are outstanding.

 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsotsi> Tsotsi (2005) - takes place in
Johannesburg South Africa...and is a film you can't get out of your mind for
days.

and
The White Rose - German student resistance in Munich during WWII. Very
powerful. You can get it through Amazon.com...I don't know if you can get
Tsotsi.
Also you might think about the four Documentary Films nominated for Oscars
this year. All were very powerful.

THE MUSHROOM CLUB
TRT 35mins

Steven Okazaki

This is the third Academy Award nomination for Steven Okazaki.

In this examination of the terrible personal toll that followed the bombing
of Hiroshima sixty years ago, ten people whose lives were marked by the
explosion are profiled.

GOD SLEEPS IN RWANDA
TRT 30mins

Kimberlee Acquaro & Stacy Sherman

The genocide that devastated Rwanda in 1994 also left in its wake a
population that was suddenly seventy percent female. Five courageous women
struggle to rebuild their lives in a society still reeling from its bloody
recent history.

A NOTE OF TRIUMPH: THE GOLDEN AGE OF NORMAN CORWIN
TRT 40 mins

Corinne Marrinan & Eric Simonson

This is the second nomination for Eric Simonson.

The exploration of the lasting impact of radio broadcasting legend Norman
Corwin's work focuses on his landmark 1945 piece, "On a Note of Triumph,"
which aired on the evening of VE Day.

THE DEATH OF KEVIN CARTER: CASUALTY OF THE BANG BANG CLUB
TRT 27 mins

Dan Krauss

After shooting an award-winning photograph that captured the full horror of
starvation in the Sudan, South African photojournalist Kevin Carter found
himself tormented by doubts about the ethical implication of his work.

We have been putting on a monthly movie at our Cohousing for members of our
Church with fine conversations afterwords. I could use some suggestions for
movies that produce good conversations. So I'm glad to list some of our more
recent successes and in exchange receive any good ideas you have.

Our excellent ones recently include:

The Constant Gardener
Whale Rider
Crash (excellent conversation)
Khandahar
Iron Jawed Angels (An HBO movie that many don't know about but excellent
about the struggle to
obtain the women's vote)
Bonhoeffer
