We also found Tsotsi a very powerful movie. The preview images were so grim I was reluctant to see it, but redemption happens in the end. In Los Angeles "The White Rose" was shown under the name "Sophie Stoll". We highly recommend it. We saw "Water", the movie about widows in India last week. The director was at the theater for questions and answers after the movie. She described the filming being shut down in India and moved to Sri Lanka because of attacks on the set by radical right wing Hindu militants.

Two of the recent foreign films are outstanding.
Tsotsi (2005) - takes place in Johannesburg South Africa...and is a film you can't get out of your mind for days.
and
The White Rose - German student resistance in Munich during WWII. Very powerful. You can get it through Amazon.com...I don't know if you can get Tsotsi.
Also you might think about the four Documentary Films nominated for Oscars this year. All were very powerful.
