It seems to me that the last "go-around" my witness did not go through and so I hope for better "luck" and skill with the electronic media this time around. I wish to say what has been going on in my head regarding all the communication re: the restructuring/re-organization of ICA and now of late the intrigue with the polity issue. For those of you who remember me it will be common knowledge that I "got off the train" with the shift to the world and have tried to remain in the religious, spiritual mode rather than adapting to the consulting, business orientation of the ICA and what was added to all of that. I've asked a few people here and there..."What about the spirit, which we always affirmed was the key?" I went out this evening to my files and dug out some old "ie's", some Images, and yes, believe it or not I even have some old "Letters to Laymen." If you ask me if I'm surprised by the trouble within the ICA, I'd have to say "No, I'm not." But I wish to say to all of you the "train" that I've been riding the last 10 years or so, called the Westar Institute (better known as the Jesus Seminar) is finally coming around after 20 years of work on the biblical end of things to some of the practical aspects that we were dealing with in the 60's and 70's! They now have started a Liturgy and Literacy Seminar which is going to work on contemporary religious language for all kinds of services; contemporary rituals for special life occasions and rites of passage, services of retirement for old and obsolete doctrines/dogma, contemporary religious lyrics and music in the traditions of the historical Jesus. (Any of this sound familiar?) I think those of us who still have our "files" and Golden cd might have a good deal to offer this group. I remember JWM saying we could go out and build a whole new network for what we were attempting, but why, when we had a cigar box with a steeple on it in every crossroads, village and town would we do that? They (Jesus Seminar) is now holding a conference twice a year, one on the east coast in the spring (next one in Miami Lakes Feb. 28-Mar.3) and one on the west coast (Santa Rosa, Ca.) in the fall (harvest time in the wine country). You would be welcome to join Rod Rippel, David Rebstock, Joe Feiler and myself at any of these meetings. (We did have Lingo show up in Santa Rosa in 2005). Anyone intrigued or interested may contact any of the above or www.westarinstitute.org for more details.
David & Lois Zollars were assigned in 1972 to be priors in the new Sacramento House and have never left the Golden State. They've been more or less (Y & N) faithful to the Order ever since, never having lost the vision of the church renewed.
