Hi Ruth:
Judy may also want to jump in here as she may have more memory of
conversations with John about the Ecumenical Institute and his familiarity/association
with it.
I don't personally know anything about John Dodson's association with the
Ecumenical Institute before JWM, but he was a Chaplain at the University of
Nevada Reno's "Religion and Life Center" when Judy took her first Director of
Christian Education position at St. John's Presbyterian Church (1969 - 1971).
She had just graduated with her Master's in Christian Education from San
Francisco Theological Seminary. John may have been influential in Judy and I
taking our first RS-1 and The Odyssey in San Francisco. Judy will remember
better then I. I know for sure that John and Sue were our introduction to my
best friend now, Jim McCormick an art professor, his wife then Sandy and
several others associated with the University Community. I remember a
conversation over dinner with Judy one night about how oppressively conservative Reno
was and how it was going to be a real struggle for us to stay here. Not many
days after that, Judy met John Dodson who subsequently introduced us to a more
liberal faction in town. As I remember, Judy's association with John and
the Center was a major reason we were able to survive in Reno as long as we did
back then. LOL I have fond memories of both John & Sue.
