Wanda's worked very hard on this conference and here is the notice on
it. At the heart of the conference will be the unveiling of Vance
Engleman's Ghandi collection, and Arun, Ghandi's grandson will be
there to introduce it. Here's the announcement.
On October 11th and 12th, Southwestern University will be hosting
"Peace Conference 2006: making multi-faith connections in the
practice of peace and non-violence."
This conference will be focusing on the issues surrounding faith-
inspired peace seeking. Our goal is to host a conversation concerning
the role that religious convictions can play in bringing about peace
through non-violent means. This conference will explore the
productive collaboration that can occur between persons of various
convictions rather than the familiar and often-violent religious
encounters that we hear about so frequently.
Information about the conference can be found on their webstie:
http://www.southwestern.edu/peaceconference/
The keynote speaker will be Arun Gandhi on Wednesday evening, Oct.
11th. He will be speaking about the nonviolent practices born of
religious conviction that his grandfather championed in India. There
will be a panel of other faith-motivated peace practitioners
responding to his lecture and a series of workshops discussing
convictions as relates to peacemaking. Other events will include a
peace related art exhibit, various musical and theatrical
performances and a book signing by Arun Gandhi.
Conference Registration: You can register for the conference on the
website or by contacting Southwestern University Religious Life
Office at (512) 863-1527. Registration is $5.00 for Southwestern
University community members, and $15.00 for all others.
A donation of books and artifacts on Gandhi has been made to the
Southwestern University Library in the name of Vance Engleman. An
informal gathering will be held at the University Library Wednesday,
October 11th at 3:30pm to launch this exhibit. It will include the
short DVD of Memories of Vance Engleman which hosts a brief tour of
his Ashram and interview with Mother Teresa.
As part of the planning committee it is an honor to promote this
conference and encourage you to come and share this information with
your colleagues who might also be interested in attending and/or
sharing with others.
Grace & Peace,
Wanda
