Dear Joan, wise and caring woman of our Order,
We cherish the care you and others are giving on our behalf and trust our
prayers for the Henschen family and colleague care givers will strengthen
all in this long time of "watching and waiting".
We hold Larry close to our hearts -- all his creativity, questioning,
daring, exploring (the scientist/engineer/revolutionary) as well as his
steadfast commitment, vocational focus, responsibility for all (the
prior/spirit man/disciple).
Please keep us informed. Don and Suemi Clark spent yesterday with us,
and we four remembered and remembered and remembered the service and
symbol of our dear New England colleague from the early days (1960s), and
then later in Houston and the globe. May our dear colleague go gently
into this good and gracious next phase.
I will attach my earlier e-mail to Shirley. Don't know if she received
it.
With love and deep appreciation to you and our other colleagues who are
"standing present"
Grace and peace,
Marilyn and Joe

Dearest Shirley,
We received Joan Knutsen's e-mail informing us of Larry's surgery and
subsequent stroke on Monday. We know that you are now in the midst of a
difficult process of discernment, and trust you know the band of
colleagues who love you (-- including many of us in New England --) are
standing with you, offering silent prayers and vociferously claiming
promises for Larry's well-being, knowing that whatever your decision is,
it will be the necessary deed.
We engaged in remembering this afternoon, and want to share with you
some strong images we continue to hold , and if you can we would love you
to convey these to Larry:
The Family Weekend at Rolling Ridge, Labor Day, 1967 -- Gene and Ruth
Marshall came in from Chicago, Gene for the adults, Ruth for the EG. You
brought your family and stood as a powerful symbol of the missional
family to us "newly married" ones
New York House, 1974 (or there abouts?) Joe was in Asia on the Elders
trek with JWM. So, Marilyn was left to be the Area Prior-ess for 13
weeks. At a regional gathering at the NYRH it became clear that a very
serious personnel matter within the House had come to the boiling point
and needed to be addressed (a married intern in her early 30s was having
an affair with a 50 year old sojourner.) No other prior in the house
wanted to touch this. It was Larry (Hartford House prior) who
accompanied Marilyn in addressing and resolving this -- Joe and I will
never forget his solidarity and spirit support.
The OE Gathering in Vail in 2000. Larry and I somehow became named as
the recorders/documenters on our respective laptops of the deliberations
and unfolding decisions re: addressing the abuse that had been
experienced by our own offspring, the second generation. Larry's passion
for this cause, his computer savvy, and his dogged focus on our "getting
things right" inspired me tremendously. We worked well into the wee
small hours that Saturday night.
Joe has repeated innumerable times this evening, "Larry is a man whose
commitment to the mission was unquestionable, wherever he showed up.
Larry is a spirit giant."
We love you and are surely standing by your side -- including Carla and
Patty -- in our now "virtual" reality of the Global Order.
Grace, peace and love,
Marilyn and Joe
