This is particularly satisfying to me, as someone who witnessed the election in 1972 of a Labour/Socialist PM, Gough Whitlam, and then seeing him summarily "fired" by a non-elected official appointed by the British monarch (and generally thought to have been instigated by the Nixon administration and the CIA).

Fortunately, I think that this time around the current Republican administration is held in even lower esteem, so maybe Rudd will have a chance.
