Dear Colleagues:
I certainly have a great deal of respect for Hillary - I think she has been an outstanding senator encouraging cross-party collaborations and addressing hard issues. I would hope that she will continue to do that job for many years into the future. Personally, I find her nuanced answer about her vote to support the war in Irag troublesome. She apparently cannot admit a mistake. She says knowing what she knows now she would have voted differently. My question is what was it that Obama know then that she missed. I suspect the answer has a lot to do with her vision of our nation spreading democracy across the globe.
We need to take back power from (what might we call it?) the axis of corruption! There are the special interest and lobbyists. I am certainly not against special interests and advocacy - the question is who's interests? Additionally, there are the fascist religious leaders (cf. Chris Hedges) who manipulate and politicize the grassroots membership of the evangelical church. (tangent - I have been in a group in our local church studying the "live the questions" series. I know that many of you find it helpful. I just can't seem to get around the gratuitious rhetorical stereotypes used to characterize our evangelical brothers and sisters in faith and their theology. I know where Borg thinks they come from, but where do they say they come from? - end tangent) and finally, there are the Neo-cons. Until the American people take back power from forces like these, we will be doomed to repeat the past.
Five point plan - comprehensive health care, environmental stewardship, balancing the budget with a different strategy than tax breaks for the wealthy and program cuts for the poor, a sane foreign policy built on international collaboration not on narrow national interests, and number five - I am still working on that one....
Obama is correct, none of this will happen unless we re-deploy American troops and end the war.
Later,
--
