I did not find the session with Don Elliott to be particularly illuminating,
but it was of inestimable value as a simple demonstration of collegiality
and inclusion. I am unaware of any other board members who took the time to
sit with colleagues as Don did. For his willingness to be vulnerable and
forthcoming I am grateful.

I would be more than interested to hear from board members about their
experiences communicating with former staff or dispersed colleagues. It
would be reassuring to know that board members are talking with others.

It's important to reiterate that I am neither blaming the board nor offering
them up as a scapegoat. Many of us share responsibility for the situation we
find ourselves in. The question is how do we relate to one another now that
we've got this bed to lie in together.

The board does not need to defend itself; the board needs to open itself.

My message is that we need to engage one another with emotional honesty,
organizational transparency and broad inclusion. That would be illuminating,
and, to the best of my knowledge, that is what has been conspicuously
absent.
