In my advancing age I've been trying to streamline my interests and my "causes" and have basically gotten it down to just two: religion and politics. I have two pretty good sized file boxes on my desk that say Religion and Politics, but there has to be a 3rd...so it just says Miscellaneous. The problem is that it is hard to see any "winning" in either of the two major categories; maybe I'm winning in miscellaneous! I believe that the "movement" spoiled me, and many others, with its comprehensiveness and inclusiveness. We had the feeling that we were "dealing with all the problems and all the issues all at once", even if it was only in the form of a model. When I'm asked by the countless requests that come through my mailbox to deal with the environment, wildlife, Meals on Wheels, Church World Service, the Interfaith Alliance (against the religious right), the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assoc. (they've saved us about $90,000 over the last 20 yrs), the local homeless organizations, Doctors Without Borders, Greenpeace and there are more...I cry out for that comprehensive model. When we joined the Order I was, (had been) a pretty good golfer (as a teen-ager even had a couple rounds of 69) but that pretty much "went by the wayside." When we came to Calif. not only did I no longer have my seminary file drawers (left somewhere at Kemper) I didn't have any golf clubs. I thought this is silly because I'm out here in the Mecca of golf with no clubs. So I resurrected that talent and even collected as a "senior" quite a few trophies and memorable rounds. Now that is also pretty much gone...still have the great clubs, but no interest in being a "has-been-golfer." When I read in your emails about resurrecting (legacy, is it) something...I really ask myself, am I up for that? It truly has been a "great ride" and like Marilyn Monroe, I wouldn't change a thing, but the times seem to call for younger and more energetic talent. David Zollars
