Dear Ones,
It is a quiet Monday, two weeks past my 70th birthday, and I am finally
calling a close that event, which was glorious despite Fred's illness. Thanks to
all who helped with the celebration(s)!
Fred stayed in the hospital 5 days after developing blood clots in his left
leg. He's now stabilized on blood thinner, and regaining strength day by day.
He hasn't been back on the chemo drug, but saw a young, beautiful,
enthusiastic kidney specialist last week, who started him on Procrit to build up his
hemoglobin. This doctor is such a breath of fresh air that just seeing her did
Fred a lot of good. And having more red blood cells can't hurt!
The tumor at the base of Fred's neck seems to have shrunk somewhat, so we
have faith and hope that all your prayers and good thoughts and energy are paying
off. While this type of cancer (metastatic papillary renal cell carcinoma)
isn't amenable to treatment, it is one that has been documented (3% to 4%, from
what I read) to spontaneously go into remission. So building his strength is
our main strategy at this point. That has been slow because of pulmonary
problems, but the weight he has lost has helped with those problems.
We have a wonderful local community of hands-on healers, we consulted a
kinesiologist who gave good advice on nutrition, Fred has been getting in the warm
pool with me some mornings for Watsu (water shiatsu.) Any other suggestions?
I've felt rather regretful about writing an e-mail saying that I was a
"basket case." That was written the morning after being in the emergency room until
2:00 a.m. Actually, I'm in pretty good shape, in my own humble opinion,
thanks to your support and prayers. As demanding as life is right now, Fred's
serenity and good humor continue to care for me, profoundly.
We give thanks to the Source of All for each of you.
Love and blessings,
Jann
