ACTION: RET input into INEE Toolkit -- deadline 16 April

Subject: Resources needed for Education in Emergencies tool kit

Dear ICA friends

Continuing efforts to get ICA resources into the "education in emergencies" milieu, I am forwarding this e mail to you. It concerns a toolkit in the making. If you can help and are willing to do so, please reply to Allison, mentioning me. If you look at www.INEEsite, you will get the picture of a lively youngish network. Many people involved in education and social development with refugees are more and more aware that so-called humanitarian work should use the insights and experience of so-called community development work.

Thanks...in hope that this may strike some chords,
and
hearty greetings to all of you!

Ann (from the UK where Desmond and I are living in the village where he grew up).

As you know, the INEE Working Group on Minimum Standards is producing a toolkit to complement and help users to implement the INEE Minimum Standards handbook. We've developed the attached spreadsheet of short and practical checklists, questionnaires and forms along the categories of the standards.

However, there are a number of gaps that we are still trying to fill, particularly finding tools for the following:

- examples of a social audit, school report card
- sample checklist of strategies or matrix for community members to improve protection around schooling
- example of a school improvement plan
- example of a community/school map and corresponding analysis
- sample protection assessment
- Risk analysis tool (protection assessment) and sample 'risk matrix'
- tools for student assessment (there are some, but i think this is a very practical area where there should be a lot of resources)

- Same of roles and responsibilities of School Directors, head teachers, teachers, etc
- Samples tools for assessing and evaluating learners / validating learning achievements (Assessment tools; Tools on 'continuous assessment and evaluation methods')

In addition, we are collecting a bank of sample specific indicators from different organizations, such as: student/textbook ratio, student/school bench ratio, student/classroom ratio, learning space construction requirements and measurements, etc.

I'm pleased to introduce you to Michael Feigelson, who is working with IRC and has been also helping INEE on the development of the toolkit. michaelf at theirc.org.

Alternatively, if you already know of good, practical tools and/or indicators for the gaps mentioned and/or other tools to complement the indicators broken out in the attached toolkit spreadsheet, please send them to me (Allison) immediately. I understand that some of these tools are proprietary to the organizations that created them, but we greatly will appreciate any organization that is willing to share their tools (or versions thereof) with us and INEE will ensure that you are credited with each of its tool in the toolkit.

The INEE Working Group will be vetting all tools at the next meeting, in the beginning of May, so we will need all tools by April 16th in order to put the final draft together and disseminate to members with enough time for them to prepare for the vetting process.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Cheers,
Allison
