Not having the historical memory, my island kids had been singing the
following for the last four years. This localized version uses local flora and
sites and is sung on Earth Day. So far, has had no complaints.

The Earth Belongs to All
(Tune: Tomorrow belongs to me, Cabaret)

The flametree on Saipan is greeting the sun;
the rainbow in Tinian stands tall.
We gather together to sing as one:
this land belongs to all.

All of the goods of the earth,
and all decisions of history,
And all the inventions of humanness
 belong to each one through me.

The branch of the mango is leafy and green;
The cocos are ready to fall.
And somewhere our glory awaits unseen:
The children rejoices for all.

The cries of the innocent sound in their pain,
the mighty do tread on the small.
Let wisdom and caring be now unchained:
the world belongs to all.

A dream of the future is beckoning me,
a vision has captured my soul.
The morning is coming when all will see:
the earth belongs to all.

Oh brother, oh sister, embrace now your power,
let children be gathered for all;
we sing all together to haste the hour,
the earth belongs to all.
