I just saw Stranger Than Fiction (which, BTW, is a 'Three Strange Angels Production'--is that a clue or what?).
Will Farrell is an IRS schlub with OCD and a schizoid life until he starts hearing voices and discovers that he's a living character in the work of a novelist who's trying to figure out how to kill him off at the end.
And he journeys from being totally unconscious that he's conscious, and ensnared in a visual OCD spider web of his own making, to grasping his own mortality, deciding to live whatever life he has left to the fullest, and becoming the kind of heroic character that the author wants to keep alive. Good old Dustin plays the character who gives him the Word that life can be joyful and exhilirating even in the face of one's certain death.
There's something here about taking authorship of your own life narrative and deciding to bend history with your own life thrust, rather than simply being swept along in unconscious despair.
I never thought of the IRS as a place where awakenment could happen. But three strange angels are at work. Maybe even there!
Put it in your Netflix queue.
