Dear Priscilla,
So good to hear from you.  John and I were told to evacuate at 6am on  
Sunday.  It was a wild escape--when we were leaving, we could see the  
fires coming over the hills.  John, who had to go back to Europe that  
evening, was all packed and ready to go.  I didn't bring anything-- 
not even my address book (for which I sorely regret).  Fortunately  
Jana had Kitty's number.
Remember that old question, "If you could take one thing with you,  
what would it be?"  Well, I didn't take anything.  What I took were  
happy memories.  That's enough.
We still don't know the status of the house.  Communicating with  
people in Malibu (especially since I don't remember anyone's number)  
has been difficult.
Jana lives in a beautiful place in the mountains, surrounded by  
redwood trees.  I may just decide to stay.....:)
She's typing this and I saw tears coming down her cheeks.  From joy?  
Or despair?
Everything is fine.  John got back to Denmark.  I'm here.  So far  
it's quiet.  And the cat is sleeping on the desk in front of the  
computer.
