[Oe List ...] Wal-Mart and the weapons of mass destruction

Thanks Shelly for your input.  Alice and I spend more on our diabetic 
dog than many people in Africa, the Middle East, etc.do for their 
starving families.  We try to be "green" and have changed out all our 
bulbs for fluorescent ones, replaced our windows with energy efficient 
ones, bought a new car that is good on gasoline, but we still use energy 
as if it is limitless.  We purchase many things from garage sales and 
shop at Goodwill frequently, recycle plastic, glass, metals, paper, grow 
some of our own vegetables in our garden, have lots of fruit trees 
instead of grass, shop locally when possible, and, in the final 
analysis, have tried to change our lifestyle to minimize our impact on 
the environment.  But no matter how much we try, we still consume a 
substantial amount of the earth's resources.  Should we stop trying?  
Not really, but we also depend on a continual and uninterrupted supply 
of electricity and pure drinking water.  We depend on the all the 
suppliers of food and hardware that are around us.  It is hypocritical 
for us to condemn our neighbors because they are not living up to our 
standards when we still buy bananas and other foods imported from 
outside the US.

Shopping at Walmart is trivial when compared to how Alice and I live our 
lives.  We have a long, difficult road ahead of us if we are to become 
contributors to the environment instead of gross consumers.
