David, we want to add our best wishes as you approach your great transition,
we know with the same grace and dignified presence you always displayed in
our memories at least. We probably all remember our very first RS-1
teachers and you were mine (Milan). You and George Holcombe came to
Lincoln, Nebraska in November 1967 for a "PMC" (Parish Ministers Colloquy in
those days). I even remember the word you delivered to me which possibly
tipped the scales in favor of my future response to the "call". I was
mumbling and grumbling about how this was nothing new and I had been
teaching Tillich and Barth etc. etc. etc. You just listened for a bit and
then calmly responded, "Well, I guess it is a matter of how are you going to
take responsibility for your colleagues from here on." That was it! I was
done. It has been an honor to walk some of the same path with you these
years. And our second real encounter I guess was when we were installing
the FOOD FOR ALL program in Chicago and in need of "merchandisers" to help
us install the 200 or so Jewel stores with these display racks that would
carry the FOOD FOR ALL donation cards. You responded by "hiring on" to help
us for the next couple of weeks. In the process we had the chance to get
together and "reflect" a little. I especially remember fondly the
invitation of Lyn Mathews Edwards to you, Frank Knutson and me to her
apartment for dinner. What an evening and what an opportunity to have just
a bit of the great conversation and hear Lyn's appreciation for the Order
and the work we had done, all of us together. Linda and I wish you the most
blessed transition in this great journey. With appreciation for your great
spirit and life. Grace and Peace, Milan and Linda
