What a shame. A long time ago, a professor at one of our UM seminaries wrote an article for a UM publications on the theme of plagerism and copyright. I wrote a response to this article entitled, "Steal my stuff, please!"
All the words and all the tunes belong to all the people. What are "they" going to do to me? Put me in Jail. Geez, I'm looking for three-squares a day, and time to brood, ruminate and chew some cud. Why not of "their" dime.

Subject: [Oe List ...] Song book

When I was working on publishing the preschool song book in 2000, I attempted to include musical notation of the melodies. Since most of them were nursery rhymes, there was no copyright issue. But I tried to get permission from the copyright holders of "Blowing in the Wind" for "How Many". Both that company and the copyright holders of "This Land is You Land", which is also a tune in the preschool repertoire, denied my request, saying it is against copyright laws to publish that music with different words.

Just that note for those who are looking to do any trademarked publications of the melodies, whether in recordings of songs or actual musical notations. Some of them will need to be without authorization.

In going through the SONGS list of Larry's publication (thanks, Larry), I noticed that we were singing "Whispering Hope". It must have been after I left most structure of OE and ICA. That was my dad's favorite and was one sung at his funeral. I have a notation of it on very, very ancient paper, if anyone wants to have a copy for future use!

Hey, Weigel! I offered you and Shanker the use of my mountain house near Winter Park, but I haven't heard a reply. Did you receive my message?
