As a young child, both before my time in the ICA and during, I heard messages about "God".
"God is everywhere"
"We are children of God"
"God is the Ground of our Being" (yes, an RS-1 reference)
Then later in life, I came into contact with other philosophies, including ancient Native American and other Native teachings.
"Aho, Mitakiyasin"
"We are all connected"
"We are one"
I have decided and experienced a blending of both within me. In short, since God is everywhere and we are all one, it is evident the We are God and therefore my experience of being disconnected from God is therefore a mind game. A very powerful experience, to be sure, and I am constantly learning how to reframe and restructure my thinking about "self" and "God".
So, I know that when I'm experiencing deep despair and "god-loneliness", it is not about where god is or is not. God is always here. It is about where my mind and body are, and how will I choose to respond to each moment and each feeling.
That is my life-long discipline. It has been and is an incredible exploration!
Thank you for sharing the sermon, Herman.
