Hello everyone,

Last summer I went to Bali for the third annual conference of the Bali Institute for Global Renewal. The Institute is based in Sausalito, CA. The vision and mission of this group is so consistent with the work of the ICA that I thought some of you might enjoy learning about it. While there've been three conferences in Bali with amazing men, women, and youth (and many internationally known dignitaries) from all over the globe, the vision is shifting to establishing a permanent center there.

You can see below some info about the vision and mission of this group embedded in an invitation to a local gathering that I'm planning to attend. It's for previous attendees and their guests - anyone local and interested in checking it out? There's also a link to a video shot at the last conference. I was interviewed but I haven't seen this video yet so I don't know if I ended up in it. You can also check their website if you'd like to know more: http://www.baliinstitute.org/

It's interesting to see the passion and the challenges in fulfilling this dream.. so reminiscent of our early days, yet certainly very contemporary and unique in many ways. If someone feels called to do so, I'm sure Marcia Jaffe, the Pres. of the Institute, would be pleased to hear from you.

  Hope you enjoy it...

  Namaste,
  Jan Allen (formerly Latham)

Dear Bali Institute friends:

I'm so excited to personally invite each of you to attend our first
"Strategic Dreaming" session for the future Bali Institute for Global
Renewal. This will be the first of a few gatherings designed to help
us dream/think through the incredible possibilities, opportunities
and potential for a world learning and dialogue center based in
Bali. As most of you know, the three events that have taken place in
the last four years helped us realize that there is potential to
offer transformative learning and skill-building in an indigenous
context that draws people from around the world. We also know that
the Balinese people and culture can serve as co-creators and co-
conveners for this unique and powerful kind of learning and dialogue.

Please take a peek at our brand new video (link below) completed by a
highly-skilled film maker, Michael Kastenbaum, who came to our
gathering in August and shot 7 full days of interviews and
experiences. I think it will give us all a sense of what is being
"dreamed" through this work, along with your own experiences in Bali,
or thru conversations with me and others about growing our "Quest for
GLobal Healing" and Awakening Global Action" into a sustainable
learning center for the world.

Here are a few preliminary questions that might help drive our
discussion, and your help is deeply appreciated in other engaging
questions that you feel will help steer us in the right direction.
(I will pass those on to you before we meet)

1. How can we amplify the voices and cross-pollenate the passions of
people who care about this planet

2. How can we build a more global base of exchange among an
intergenerational audience of people ready to become activists from
the heart

3. What would be some ways to create an Omega (Omega Institute/
Esalen Institute) kind of learning center that would draw people from
around the world around specific topics like becoming global
citizens, new forms of activism, leadership training, world dialogues
on peace, etc.

4. Collaborative programs that might be developed and produced in
the next two years

OUTCOMES

--new directions for launching the Bali Institute
--topcis/program ideas that can move forward quickly
--roles you might want to play in this arena
--list of potential collaborative institutions/people/world leaders

WHEN/WHERE The first meeting will be at my home on Thursday,
February 7 from 2:00-7:00 including a great dinner.

BRINGING GUESTS: Please let me know if you would like to bring a
guest...new input from people who know nothing about what we are up
to can often be wonderful catalysts in our "dreaming"...just give a
quick call.

I am attaching a concept paper that might help in thinking about this
afternoon together.

Big hugs, so many thanks, and can't wait to have you here. Please do
RSVP as soon as possible. If you can't make it, I will try to get
you scheduled in for another one of the later gatherings.

Marcia
