Dear Family of Kay -- Mary Warren & Don; Dan; Steve; and colleagues
around the world who loved her,

Here in the hinterlands of Maine, we join others everywhere in lighting
candles, offering prayers of thanksgiving and celebrating the completion
of Kay's generous, passionate and compassionate life that is, indeed,
complete and pleasing to the Mystery.

And now for the remembering -- which may need some editing from those
whose "little grey cells" are more active than ours:

Joe and I first met Kay when we were assigned as Area Priors in the
Religious House in New York City. As we recall, Don and Mary Warren were
visiting the Big Apple and we all went out to dinner together -- this was
sometime back in the early 1970s when the NYRH was "temporarily located
in Paterson, NJ." I think Kay and Slats had separated, or perhaps
divorced at that point. Soon thereafter, Slats joined us in the NYRH for
awhile as a "sojourner."

Both Kay and Slats absolutely loved their kids from all they ever
articulated to us.

As time progressed, Phil Townley (Joe's "best friend" in the Order) who
spent a lot of time in NYC on development , began "keeping company" with
Kay. At that time I think Kay was assigned somewhere else, perhaps
Chicago.

By 1973 Phil negotiated a "deal" for the wonderful NYRH property on
Claremont for $1.00 a year rent -- on the Upper West Side, right next to
the Methodist, Presbyterian, etc. church headquarters (475 Riverside
Drive) and just down the street from Riverside Church where all our EG
went to Sunday School.

If we recall correctly, when Joe and I were assigned to the HDP Consult
Trek in 1975-76 and landed in Maliwada, we learned from Laura that her
dad had married Kay a few months earlier. We were shocked (especially
Joe) that we had not been apprised of this , but eventually, with
Laura's help, we "came around."

I think Kay (and perhaps Laura) totally healed this hurt, because when
Phil died, Kay asked Joe to be first liturgist at Phil's memorial
service. This meant the world to him.

What a marvellous lady was Kay Slattery Townley -- How we will miss her,
but how her image will continue to inspire ...

Grace, peace, love,

Marilyn and Joe Crocker
