[Oe List ...] Iowa floods

Hello everybody - 
We are fine so far in Winterset, Iowa.  We are located in SW Iowa, so approx. 
80 miles from the Scout camp that had a hard hit from tornado.  Several 
tornadoes have been nearby, but we haven't had a direct hit, but the rain has 
been non-stop.  Our hearts are breaking for area farmers who have lost their 
crops in the soggy fields, some of whom never got to plant in the first place 
because it has been such a soggy spring.  And of course our hearts are 
breaking for Parkersburg, Iowa, which was flattened, & the Scout camp.  

Cedar Rapids Public Library is full of about 4 feet of water at this time, & 
one of their main hospitals closed yesterday.  Numerous buildings at 
University of Iowa (Iowa City) are closed, including the main library.  Parts 
of Des Moines are being evacuated.  Displaced people are seeking internet & 
email, so the rest of us librarians are doing what we can to accommodate.  I 
know there will be a lot of clean-up required from the floods, & we are hoping 
that the levees hold.  In Des Moines, they are saying that if a levee breaks, 
there will be only a few minutes before the water would be at least up to your 
neck, so they have been requesting voluntary evacuations all day.
