It seems to me a large part of the problem is that many people have no  
symbolic life beyond the economic.  That is, they listen to Madison  Avenue's ads 
to try to find meaning.  I do think the crisis of global  climate change is 
large enough (and maybe this economic meltdown) to get  everyone's attention.  
Now if we can just get some leadership to point all  of our energy in one 
direction.  I think the symbols need to be positive,  not bread lines.  And simple. 
But what?
