Hi there Colleagues,
There was a piece by Alice Walker (The Colour Purple) in the Guardian
Newspaper. She was longing for a leader who loved their people and was in
turn loved. Something that has not happened for a long time in the US and
probably in all our countries. She feels that Obama may be that person.
This is an aspect of leadership that tends to get forgotten I think. Though
there is a lot of hype about loving the country, it sounds more like a claim
of entitlement than a declaration of affection.
She recalled a visit to Cuba. As the sanctions began to bite Castro was
walking in the streets with a demonstration waving a small
paper flag like thousands of others, without body guards or any protection.
With his people thin and gaunt like them, sharing their difficulties.
Cuba survived pretty much without oil for many years didn¹t it? We may be
needing to learn from them how they did it.
Perhaps relevant and at least a plug... I have added a couple of songs to my
MySpace page. www.myspace.com/strangeaffair2 which have something to say
about life and leadership. You can download songs and words if you¹re
interested. I tend to do my commenting, (like Marshall has started to do) in
song.
Best wishes,
Tim
