[Oe List ...] Salmon: a better edited list on David's Order annuity

This response only stirs my juices in a negative way. I don't see these as
serious responses to David's question.

I was only involved in Springboard for one meeting. The largest group in the
meeting was interested in working on a guild structure. I was interested in
a symbolic order along the lines of the third order of Franciscans. This
would perhaps involve a symbol (e.g., Franciscans wear the Franciscan
cross), a commitment to an inner life, a commitment to living out
understandings that guided the order (and preserving and articulating them,
and some kind of periodic perhaps quarterly contact with others in the
order.

The overall intent was well expressed, I thought in the revised statement we
adopted at Lake Junaluska. My personal holding back has not been because I
don't carry within me the legacy of the order, but given the things I
involved in that seem to me like living on the edge, what benefit would this
commitment to what would now be another community be to me, and how
important is it that we preserve in some way our shared wisdom and pass it
on to others.

Toward a Declaration from the Springboard Gatherings

(Lake Junaluska, NC, December 2, 2007)

In recognition of the shared journey we have had and the resource we can be
for each other and the whole Earth community, we commit ourselves to move
toward the formation of a new body for the following purposes:

* To carry forward the legacy of profound humanness in the
experiences of the members of this body;

* To develop the depth capacity of individuals and groups by sharing
innovative and sustaining social, economic, ecological and spirit wisdom and
methods;

* To journey ourselves and broaden our experiences to increase our
abilities to care;

* To engage in the life and mission of this body and participate in
developing its common life, symbols, practices and rituals;

* To be an open community of people inclusive of multiple generations
and cultures; and

* To sustain our members in their diverse vocations.

These purposes are quite important, but the question has been to what extent
we need to carry this on as a self-conscious community rather than through
our individual lives and our now diverse communities.

A LITTLE BETTER EDITED! wes

David and All:

    Here are 10 of my suggestions for commemorating our decision of
perpetual vows to be the Order.: Some are serious and others are less. You
can decide. I want these to stir the imaginations of others.

A. All plans are contracted to be administered with ICA/International or
some other friendly religious order:

1.    Tattoo the Order Wedgeblade on the inner left wrist or inner thigh;

2. Buy a "Last Order Member" bottle of ScotcH--the bottle will be sent to
the last survivor;

3. Donations made to an "Order" scholarship at TU in Austin-- this could
be in the name of those who wish to be memorialized

4. Donations made to an "Order" scholarship at Perkins at SMU in the name
of Joe Matthews;

5. Burial plan to put an Order Cross on our tombstone or other memorial
-- send a plan that could be copied;

6. Burial plaque in 5th City--donate sufficient funds to place our names
on it-- this could be commonly funded so that at death, everyone's name is
on it, in addition to all those who previously died;

7. Order "Ash-Pit" in a common place where our ashes could be sent/placed
with no names attached;

8.    5th City Vault for Order member ashes;

9. To commemorate a famous Order Axiom, commission a bronze as a Memorial
somewhere in Louisiana with a, "Shovel and a Bucket of Shit;"

10. All Order members donate to a common fund so that an Order Cross can
be sent to all members and their children to be used as they wish.

Does this stir the juices?

It has been one of the great sadnesses of the last 25 years that I have
somehow not been able to participate in that symbol of membership in the
order I never left.

How might we symbolize the gift and the blessing of perpetual vows?

David
