[Oe List ...] Gratefulness slide show

Susan,

I really was not criticizing Debra. I was more reacting to the email itself
which said it was the best email in the world. I know how the suffering of
others does make us grateful for what we have, but displaying the suffering
of others to make people feel good about themselves seems wrong to me. 

This has nothing to do with Debra who has lived an exemplary life of
compassion and caring and I'm sure this is true of A.M. Noel as well.

Wow.  Tough crowd.  Give Debra a little grace.  She didn't seem to me to be
grateful she wasn't them -- it seemed to me she was saying it caused her to
stop and be aware instead of taking her blessings for granted.  That does
not imply that she was insensitive to others' suffering.  Geez.

There's survivor's guilt as well as gratitude.  The sadness of starvation
and neglect doesn't fill me with gratitude either.  'There is something in
the misfortune of our closest friends that does not displease us' - or makes
us thankful - seems more related to what Tillich called sin as separation.

Perspective is important, but in general I don't find gratitude in knowing
others are worse off than me.

Hi A.M.,  These are powerful images & message.  Does it come as a slideshow?
(The attachments were scrubbed but openable). I want to share but concerned
others may not take time to open all the attachments.  Is there a website?
Thanks so much for sharing this- it immediately made me feel grateful for
all that I have in my life!
