I have also found this discussion interesting on some levels.
Part of the magic of humanness and Imaginal Education is that Spong and all ya'll who taught me during my time in the Order had and have your unique points of view and "prejudices". 
And yet, in spite of all that, parts, very important parts, of the message got through to my wee young brain and stuck.  
Why did they stick?  Because they work for me.
They work because I can "ground" them in my life experience.
Because they resonate with the oldest Magic of deep connection and Oneness.
The ones that don't stick are stale, they won't grow corn, (as some of my native teachers would say).
Many of the ones that don't stick have something else in common.
No matter how they are dressed up, they support a "right/wrong" view of the universe.  
They support original sin.  (instead of original blessing).
