[Oe List ...] not to be outdone, I offer up a few thoughts on the Symposium

Just read this. This part particularly struck me: "Most of the languaging I
heard was 'classic', pre-1973, pre-ICA EI language.

And I was sitting there wondering whether any of the current ICA-USA staff
present (with the exception of Terry Bergdall) had ANY clue about what they
were hearing for the first time! Or, for that matter, who they were rubbing
shoulders with. It must have been like visiting a different universe for
them. Which tells us something. About loss of institutional memory. Etc."

I disagree that we buried Joe Matthews, rather we raised him up from the
dead. (Let the dead bury the dead.)

I do think the Symposium was very important. It offered possibility for the
future.

I will offer more thoughts soon. Here's some to begin with. I think there is
a difference between ICA and EI/OE. I don't think the mission of ICA is to
do what we did in EI. Terry Bergdall mentioned to me that he may resurrect
the presence of EI. This is one thing we can talk about.

Terry had a very good set of priorities for ICA US (I learned there are only
12 staff members now, this is difficult to fathom.) I left early Saturday of
the Symposium so I don't know what Terry said when he spoke. If he had a
written text, I hope he will share it.

As I remember it his priorities were to maintain Kemper and ICA as an
institution, including certification of facilitators, to support colleague
initiatives (such as John's profound journey dialogues), recommit to ICA's
justice mission, and to carry out activities in connection with OIKOS at
Oklahoma City University. These seem right on to me.

Beyond these priorities for ICA, what I see as work we share in common is
what to do with EI, OE and colleague initiatives. With respect to OE, I
would l like to see the effort being at preserving our common wisdom which
is why I invited reflections on this and being a way to symbolize one's
commitment to a missional life. I don't see OE doing projects or being a
"force." I would not support that. I don't see us being in the diaspora. I
see us as being dispersed and being, in George Herbert Bush's words, a
thousand points of light. Our missional life I understand to be held by the
term "colleague initiatives."

Ok, here it is in Word. I'd love to hear your responses and reflections on
the event, and so I decided to be first out of the box by offering up a
little Christmas present to you all.
