[Oe List ...] Anne Slicker's Funeral

When we decided that in order to staff all of the RS-I's that were getting
scheduled women would be invited to learn to teach. The men were mostly
clergymen and the women were "wives." We had been, in that time of
genderization, the hostesses for the courses but not the pedagogues. Donna
McClesky had broken the pattern but she was the only one. So, it was with
trepidation that we went to Wednesday night pedagogy. But, Ann refused. I
remember her sitting at the switchboard at 3444 and telling me, "I will
not." Later, of course, she "changed her mind." But I remember her as
always making "her own" decisions."
