Dear Colleagues,
Many of you have known Alice Neill, a sister of Joseph Mathews. I met her
at a summer program which she attended while visiting Lyn and Joe. She is
the aunt of Tim and Rebecca Watson, who live near us in North Carolina. Tim
notified us of the rapidly declining health of Alice and gave permission for
me to share his message with those who knew her.
John and I sat with her and her husband (now deceased) at the Bishop Jim and
Eunice banquet several years ago in WDC. She was so appreciative of the
honor bestowed upon her brother and of expressions of deep honoring for Joe
and Lyn's work.
The family address is l7 Ridgeland Road, Norwich, New York 13815. Son
Alec Neill lives at home and I understand that son Joe is also there. Sons
Ken and Jonathan have also participated in various ICA gatherings. I
remember meeting Alec on the Westside many years ago. Other contact info:
(607) 334-8045. E-mail: aneill at adelphia.net.
Those of you who knew her may wish to contact the family and share your
remembrances and reply to Tim's question. Address above. Lynda Cock
Dear John and Lynda,
Just back from a life changing event: my visit with Alice Neill in Norwich
NY.
She is living her last days filled with gratitude for the gifts life has
placed at her doorstep. She continues to be an inspiration for us all, and
is looking forward with open arms to the journey ahead of her, and rejoining
her husband Alex Neill.
During the time I was with her, she focused on Joseph Wesley Mathews for a
time. While giving audience to her stories about him, again, as has been the
case several times in my life, I felt JWM's presence. Alice explained he was
one of the most impactful relationships of her life.
We spoke about the legacy of ICA. Alice Rebecca, myself, Jonathan, Ken
Neill, and Alex Neill Jr. participated. I was moved to tell Alice about how
this inheritance of caring and hope for the future is being passed on by
her, and lives on in me, as is so for many whose lives she touched within
her family and as an English teacher at Norwich High School. Alice is
continuing to receive visits from her former students!
So I have returned to Hillsborough freshly recharged with the intention to
carry forth with the Great Work. Fresh ideas abound.
Lynda, thank you for your emails. And John, as you know we are featuring
"Journey Reflection" on our New Monk home page - you are making a wonderful
contribution to our work and mission.
All my very best to you both,
Tim
