Dear Dorothea and Jim,
Our prayers and gratitude are with you.
Gail and Dick
Greetings -
We, Dorothea and Jim, want to share with you that Jim has just recently
been diagnosed with advanced cancer in his lower esophagus. The first signs
in August were difficulty in getting food down. Many tests and consultations
ruled out surgery and while chemo and radiation might provide more time,
the quality of life in that time is problematic. So, after due consideration
he made the decision to go for palliative care and has been admitted into
hospice home care.
He currently feels good and has no symptoms except for difficulty in
eating, moving toward more "slippery" foods such as soups, yogurt, Ensure, and a
favorite - ice cream. He's putting off using his new feeding tube until
it's absolutely necessary.
So, it's a journey that we're on. Dorothea talks about it as being on the
yellow brick road with uncharted terrain ahead and unknown experiences
waiting at every twist and turn. Fortunately there are awesome companions to
travel it with.
We'll keep you posted. Our best to all of you, Dorothea and Jim Jewell
