Yep, you're right! My profound apologies for my screwed-up memory. (Geez, 1985 was SO long ago!)
But I can still remember the difference between Slicker and Mathews. Most of the time!

Without
compassion, what hope?
Q: Is
there any cause for optimism?
A:
Well, personally, yeah. Everybody's got a life to lead and they've got a
bodhisattva tendency, everybody wants to do good, so I just think on a personal
level, yeah. On a larger scale, there doesn't seem to be any hope unless
compassion becomes a more widespread important teaching on how to live.
Compassion to self and others.

Lynda, you failed to mention that Bob Hanson and his wife
took their passion and skills from the Spirit Movement and the LCX to St. Paul
where they reinvigorated a newly merged St. Paul-Reformation Lutheran Church
and made it a successful model of inclusiveness back when that was extremely
RARE (& in defiance of church authorities!). I visited them in about 1985
just to see this in action. Their current lesbian senior pastor has been in
service since the early days of their Wingspan Ministry with the LGBT
community, and, finally, was ordained in 2001 in an act of 'ecclesiastical
disobedience' attended by 1,100 people.

Re: the Conference on World
Religions: I don't know if Bob Hanson is on this list or not, but I do
know that he and his wife Karen Ingvoldstad, an interfaith pastor, are planning
to attend. Bob was a Lutheran pastor from Milwaukee during the
LCX. Lynda Cock

Hello Colleagues
Do any of you know the Rev Paul Raushenbush - he will be giving the witness at
Pitt St Uniting Church in Sydney tomorrow morning - he is in Australia to
attend the Conference of World Religions which is being held in Melbourne in
early December - are any of you coming to that conference?
