Dear Lynda & John
Thank you for your note and for the acknowledgement of Carol's passing on
the Journey Reflection.
Elaine and I were unable to attend the funeral held on Monday as we were in
the Torres Strait Islands, having been invited there by our friend from
there, for a ceremony of unveiling and blessing the headstone on his
Mother's grave. His Mother, who was 91 when she died a couple of years ago
was a well respected Elder on Hammond Island, a small island just west of
the main administrative centre which is on Thursday Island. It was our first
(and probably only) trip to the Islands which is a beautiful part of the
world where the culture is still very strong - following the ceremony at the
cemetery we all went to a nearby parish hall where we sat under spreading
almond trees and were entertained by traditional dancers for two hours
before a great feast.
We got back to Cairns on Monday evening and rang Julie Miesen who was by
then back in Brisbane. She said they had a great celebration of Carol's life
- Carol's brother who was a priest in Dalby, gave a fine eulogy followed by
stories and tributes from Carol's sisters and Julie and Ray Richmond. Carol
certainly played a pivotal role in enabling our service to Timor Leste after
Mike Chapman had opened up the contacts. We had known her first in the early
days of her involvement with the movement during our time in the Darwin
house in 1973-4, and her passion and commitment to the 'mission' never
wavered over the next 35 years.
Hope you are both well.
Take care
John & Elaine

Thinking of you and our Australian colleagues as you celebrate the completed
life of Carol and the many others who have given their passion and energy to
the movement and especially the much needed work in Timor. We also remember
Mike Chapman's dedication to that work along with the Telfords and others
whose names we probably don't know of. We are grateful to have journeyed
with you in some way and for our time in Australia in the late 70's.
Journey on, dear colleagues.
With care, Lynda and John Cock

.Every generation gets a chance to change the world
Pity the nation that won't listen to your boys and girls
Cos the sweetest melody is the one we haven't heard
Is it true that perfect love drives out all fear?
The right to appear ridiculous is something I hold dear
Oh, but a change of heart comes slow

This is our first, last, and only chance. Namaste.

Note: On this her memorial day, we celebrate the completed life of Carol
Borovic, an Australian colleague committed to revitalization globally,
especially to communities in Timor. We remember her spirit of service.
