Thank you, Jann.
Not directly related to the thread you are responding to...
I have been amazed at how many people are continuing to act like zombies even after Obama's election. His election was only the beginning of the opportunity in front of us... it was never supposed to be the whole ball of wax.
One day at a time here in Seattle.

My, hopefully, ever evolving digestion of what we did for and to people’s lives is best reflected in the almost cultic fear, that was helped by JWM, that once you were in community you could not back out without becoming a zombie.
It is interesting that the subject of zombies is really "up" right now, with best selling books for both children and young adults with zombies as the main characters. Sorry I can't name them; I heard reviews on NPR.
I read 3 of the Twilight books to see why teenage girls are so attracted by them. They are compelling stories, but I can't imagine being in love with a vampire (cold and hard as marble) or wanting to become one.
I clearly remember a day in 1975, a few months before our family fled Chicago. I was at a congregational breakfast in Kemper. The light seemed to shift, and as I looked around the group, everyone looked like zombies to me. Walked like zombies. Talked like zombies.
That was a momentary and subjective event, but affected me deeply. I consider it a moment of grace. My disease of codependence continued to progress for years after that, but grace events kept showing up to illuminate my way. Grace led me to the Order. Grace led me out. How precious, indeed, that grace appears in our lives.
Blessings,
Jann McGuire
Thanks, Carlos, for reminding of that moment. I've always wanted to tell you how much you did for my career as a bilingual elementary teacher. In Summer 1968, in about 5 minutes, you taught Congregation C (we met in the old chapel) how to pronounce our Spanish r by having us say "bitter, batter, butter" and pay attention to the middle sound in each word. Muchisimas gracias.
