I would recommend going to www.faithfulreform.org website. They have written a vision statement and a critique of HR 32. which I found very helpful. They seems to be approaching it through compassion.

  I believe this can be facilitated over the listserve, though the gestalting might be less participative than usual. Is there someone(s) who would be willing to take on this task? I'm up to here right now, but would be happy to play a second role. Seems to me the job will be:
          1. solicit responses to the question of vision: What would a desirable health care system look like? What are components of the desired system?
          2. Group the ideas into columns according to similarity.
          3. Post the columns on the listserve, and invite the group to provide 3-4-word names (We want to see _____)
          4. Invite a discussion of the names (perhaps for a week) and then settle on the ones with greatest consensus. 

  Move on to the contradictions and follow the same process; then to the strategy.

  The ToP network has a task force working on ways to facilitate virtual meetings, and there are multiple software and web-based programmes that can be used. Unfortunately most charge a fee and are complicated to learn, so while we probably can't use them here, maybe someone from that group would like to play a role in this on the listserve. 

  While this may be a tedious process for us, it may just possibly generate some innovative ideas that are not yet in the national discussion. Who knows?

    I'm an Old TImer. Maybe we should have a TOP facilitator (or facilitator team) do this.     What I remember is that when we expected to solve a problem we start out creating a Vision--since the Health Care system is definitely broken, a 5-year vision would be a good start. We will undoubtedly not get it all fixed with the first plan. We pull the Vision brainstorm into a consensed-upon gestalt. Then we're on to the Contradictions. Once again we create a consensed-upon gestalt and then ask for the Strategic Directions. Once those have a consensed-upon gestalt we brainstorm the Tactical action necessary. I don't know that we've done this as a community over the internet before, but it may well be that we get volunteers to pick a Strategic action and create the Tactical Implementation. Or perhaps we go one more level and spread out at the Implementary level.

    My 2 cents worth for the Vision--

    o   Disconnect health care and the profit made from health care

    o   Reward (subsidize) preventive health-care policies

    o   Identify diet-related health-care problems: some clearly volitional; some social/industrial (corn syrup in everything)

    o   Establish new guidelines for medical liability & malpractice procedure

    o   Pay MDs for promoting wellness

    o   Include multiple alternatives for treatment (naturopathic) in insurance

Maybe we could begin with vision and answer the question: What would a solution look like? What are the dimensions of a viable, desirable health care system? (Not what we don't want, but what we do want, please.) I suspect we have a lot of agreement on that, but maybe not. 

      Then we can sort out what contradictions are blocking that vision (not what's wrong with the present system).
