Thanks, Jack, for your recommendation. I also want to recommend a book by
colleague Catherine Whitney, a former 5th City Preschool teacher. I have
just finished reading her recent account of the Lost Dreams of American
Vets: Soldiers Once, a personal account of the life of her brother Jim's
return from Vietnam. It's also a story of grace in the midst of the pain
and separation that most of us have likely experienced in our own families
in dysfunctional, mental health situations.

You'll also want to look at her book The Calling: A Year in the Life of an
Order of Nuns. Set in her hometown of Seattle, Catherine's book tells the
stories of various nuns, some of whom were her own teachers, and allows us
to view the powerful work that is still being done by religious women as
they respond to the deep calling of their lives through times of great
personal and societal change. The book challenges the readers to reflect
upon the evolving calling which they have experienced throughout life.
Many parallels to our own journey as a religious family order.

Dear Colleagues,

I'm taking the liberty to send this email from John Baggett to all of you.
Only a few of us were on his original mailing list and I know many more
would like to know about it. I would urge all of you to go to his web site
and read the selection from his new book on Tragedy. John has something to
say that is in our tradition of profound witness. I found myself moved, due
to my own situation, to order the book, and it is my intent to get many more
copies to give to family and friends who are suffering from pain and loss.
I promised him I would send him a personal feedback on the book after
reading it, but it looks fantastic.

Grace & Peace,

Jack

Hi,

This is John Baggett. It has been a lot of years since many of us have seen
each other but I always enjoy learning about your journeys and the
remarkable things you have done.

I am writing to invite you to visit my website
<http://www.johnfbaggett.com/> www.johnfbaggett.com . There are some new
things there, including information about my newest book, Times of Tragedy
and Moments of Grace I think you will find interesting.

A number of years ago, during the most painful time of grief I have yet
experienced, I found myself in spiritual crisis. I believe, over time, my
struggle with personal loss taught me a great deal about life, and about
genuine faith. I have also benefited over the years from the wisdom of
other sojourners who have become acquainted with grief.

I decided to write a book about personal tragedies, because many people have
difficulty, as I did, getting through their seasons of grieving without
getting stuck along the way.

Perhaps you will find it to be timely in your own life, or, if you know
others who might benefit from this book, I hope you will invite them to the
site as well.

Grace and Peace

John
