Below is a note of appreciation that I sent to Lynn True and Nelson Walker
after viewing the World Premier showing of their film Summer Pasture at the
Durham Film Fest this past Saturday. What a delight to see a young woman
that I have met only briefly before and to see the quality of the work she
is doing.
We were in Fifth City with the Trues when they went to Korea to adopt this
beautiful little baby. We met her after that and didn't see her again until
she was about three when she and Jeremiah were in Kemper Preschool together
while we were in India. I think she was about ten years old when the Trues
stopped by to visit us in Virginia as they were moving westward.
Our 14 year old granddaughter who is into drama went with me to the viewing.
About 350 people were in the sold-out crowd for this particular event.
(Other films are going on at the same time.) I had word from Lynn today
that Summer Pasture received Special Jury Honorable Mention for the
Inspiration Award out of a total of 8 awards given and over 100 films being
shown over the four day event.
There will be other viewings in other cities that I'm sure you'll hear
about. Next year, we want to plan to go for more viewings, but this was a
very special initiation into the film world with someone that we know. I'm
so glad that Sandra sent a note about this and that we were able to attend.
This is the link to see the preview of the film:

hope you will make every effort to attend when it is in your area and to
give these young artists your supporting high votes. They are most
deserving! With our network, we can make a substantial contribution with
our votes.
With deep appreciation for one of "our" young people, Lynda Cock

Dear Lynn and Nelson,
What a delightful day we had in Durham at the World Premier of Summer
Pasture. Thank you so much for helping us get tickets . We picked a high
seat so we could see the subtitles clearly which was a very helpful hint.
An impressive crowd!
Amazing photography of an amazing story of one family's struggle. What an
adventure it must have been to explore Tibet and to get to know that family
so intimately as you filmed. Thank you to the Yak who provide so much!!! You
two are to be commended for your passion and care of getting this story onto
the screen and into the consciousness of those of us who have so much and
think we are often complaining because we can't buy as much as we have
been accustomed. It is a great journey story of a young family living the
simple life and struggling with the future for themselves and their
children.
This is a film that reminds us that to care for our neighbor includes not
only those near to us, but the environment and those in far distant parts of
the globe. We are made more aware of the diversity of the "neighborhood" we
live in on planet earth. We can see through the story you have woven that
though people have different life styles, we have some powerful commonality
in our care for our children's future, in our daily cares that must be met,
in our longing for shared responsibility in our tasks, the need for
community as well as our longing for time to sit with our hands in our laps,
as Yama (the young woman character) so desires.
I'm sorry that we were not able to stay around longer to meet Nelson. (He
was being interviewed before the show and Kaitlyn had to get back for other
obligations.) You both have a great presence in being upfront and
responding to the Q & A session. We voted with a 10 for your film and hope
that you will get due recognition for your work on this project. Kaitlyn
was so pleased to get to meet you and to share in this kind of "theatre."
Keep us posted on the outcome of the awards. Share links with the interviews
that were done.
We send thanks and good wishes! We will continue to look for great things
coming from you two.
Lynda and Kaitlyn
