It was a great privilege of my life to know and work with Titus and Augusta
in Chicago. Renzi, sweet and shy at that time, was part of our family for
awhile when Titus and Augusta were assigned elsewhere.
Eating Titus' curry on family night on Kemper's 5th floor, was a pleasure
marked with some pain and stark revelatory awareness of the spaces in my
head.
Fred and I traveled with Augusta and Titus to Japan in 1974. We were
assigned to Tokyo, they were going someplace farther west, but stayed in Tokyo
overnight. Breakfast was very soft boiled eggs over steaming hot rice and
something spicy. Titus looked ecstatic as he said, "Not like corn flakes, is
it?"
I know it's a fantasy, but I love the image of Fred greeting Titus with a
great laugh and hug on the far-side bank of Jordan. Fred will definitely
want to remind Titus of the curry, never too hot for him.
Prayers for the Jayasekara family as they adjust to this loss.
