In case you weren't on the symposium mailing list, I'm
posting this report of the symposium as reported in the Methodist Conference
Newsletter. Lynda Cock
Bishop Jim cuts the
ribbon symbolizing the initiation of the JWM archives at Wesley
Theological Seminary in WDC. To the right of Bishop Jim are his daughters
and young Joe. Young Jim Mathews wasn't in that frame, but he
was right next to Joe. To the left are Terry Bergdall and Marge
Philbrook, representing the years of work of herself, Betty Pesek
and Audry Ayres, to name a few. George Walters is behind
them, along with Lynda Cock in the green hat, Tim Dismeyer, and Jane
Stallman. Can't name the others. Most people had cameras and were
taking photos. I hope someone got a photo of all the ones taking
photos. Quite a crowd.

Dear Colleagues
Many of you have asked and so our best estimate now is 142
paid registrations and nearly 170 at the opening event with our guest speakers,
members of the Mathews’ family and special guests and sponsors. An edited
participants list is being updated and will be available to everyone. Watch the
website for the update.
Please see the following for a great new release describing
the Symposium and recognizing Bishop Mathews’ leadership, the Wesley Theological
Seminary hosting, the United Methodist Church speakers and sponsors and
Maynard’s coordination and organizing leadership.
http://www.bwcumc.org/content/mathews-brothers-and-their-works-honored
As you will notice, Maynard in the closing paragraph points
to the continuing work we are now doing to get ready for a round of
publications. The workshop coordinators are working with their teams to get the
workshop presentations and findings edited and updated. If you are one of those,
please return you work to both you team leaders and to RPC (my email will
do).
Our target date for having all articles, talks and
presentations returned to the workshop leaders and RPC is still January
15th and many have now been received. This includes articles that
were not presented but have been submitted for inclusion regarding current work
going on among the many organizations around the world.
Thanks to all of you who have made this
possible.
For the Steering Committee
Bill Faupel, Maynard Moore, Jack Gilles, Susan Craver
and
Yours truly,
M. George
