[Oe List ...] Theological Justification for Football

So let's test the "blood's thicker than water" theory.  Archie Manning, father of Peyton Manning, QB for the Colts, was a star QB for the Saints a generation or two ago.  Who will he be pulling for?

On a hypothetical note, suppose the New York Giants were playing the Colts in the Super Bowl.  Archie's other son, Ely, is the QB for the Giants.  Then who would Archie be for?  Don't know about a "theology of football" but it sure sounds like grist for a Bonhoeffer seminar.

And, Terry, have you picked your team? Knowing you, I can't believe you
haven't.

This match-up is certainly stirring-up passions and, I might add, from some
unexpected quarters. Maybe there is something to a "Theological
Justification for Football" about this after all (or maybe not!). I asked
David Scott to comment on his alleged pontification about this. See below.

I had written (or spoken) a theological justification for football.  I do
recall talking at one time about my feeling that football was the ultimate
team building dynamic (overcoming our propensity to individual
overemphasis).  But as for a full-blown theological justification -- I think
it must have been someone else -- maybe Hilliard.
