Theological Justification for Football
I am ashamed that no one has
taken up this challenge and that David Scott has taken the 5th. I
can not let this go by without an attempt and it may count as one of my
witnesses:
I played high school football
for four years. Started playing in my freshman year at about 105 lbs and ended up
in my senior at 165lb offensive end and defensive middle line backer. I was not
fast but when scared I was quick. It would take a lot of time to talk through
the terror and amazement that happened to me in those four years. But I will
testify to the following:
Football pushed me to the
edge of my life so that I met the giver and taker of life which caused me to
question both the mystery and greatness of my life throwing me into deciding
about my own unconditional acceptance. Football forced me to learn the enduring
sustenance of the mystery in both life and death. Football destroyed all my illusions,
thus I experienced death; football gave me my real life, thus I experienced
re-birth.
Amen
