I played center. 168 #, was the 4th fastest runner on the team, but the only one who knew how to hike the ball between his legs. 2 fastest runners were the 2 guards. but everyone else was really small . . . Had an inspirational coach, Tom Flanagan, as sophomores. (example: we were losing a game 40 -0 at the half. He sent us back out on the field, saying "Go out there and fight, boys! If they can score 40 points in a half, so can we!"

I
played halfback, cornerback and receiver weighing 130 lbs. I happened to be the
fastest guy on the team until my senior year when we got two real speedsters. Knee
cartilage is in short supply.

So,
Carlos, what position did you play for the "episcopals"? I
played center in high school and walked by the team practicing in College,
listened to the sound of the hitting and retired my shoulder pads . . .

I
am pleased with the concern for the welfare of "old guys", hope this
expands.

Go Saints!!!!!

football is a very physical and sometimes violent sport.

I saw many of the hits on Favre. They did not look like they were extra
hard when I compare them with hits given to quarterbacks around the NFL.
And, he got hit too much. His offensive line did not pick up enough of
the slack.
Quite frankly, Favre played more than well enough to win the game. The
hits he took were a tribute to his talent. Amazing at all, it is, that he
made it through the game.

Even on the last interception, it appeared to me that he did not make the
mistake, it was the receiver who made the mistake. When a quarterback is
scrambling the receiver is supposed to come back to the ball on catches like
that one. Had the receiver done that he would have either caught it or
possibly prevented the interception. Then Minnesota would have had a
chance to kick a field goal and win the game and we wouldn't be talking about
"go saints!".

I thought both teams played well and both deserved to win and I'm REALLY glad
that the Saints WON!

feeling full of silly football thoughts,
Jon Elizondo
