I was rooting for the Angolan team, but they got beaten by the Ghana team a
few days ago. At the world cup in Germany I went to see the Angolas play
Portugal. I had hoped for a little historical retribution, but alas, Angola
was beaten there too.
Nigeria loosing against its neighbour Ghana will be another contribution to
the sadness of that great nation. It was deeply humiliating that Obama
went to Ghana instead of Nigeria, and everyone knew why. The Nigerian
President has been absent in a hospital in Saoudi with heart trouble since
November. A confused young man from Nigeria tries to blow up a plane. In the
absence of leadership those little snippets of reality become the story people
operate out of.
That Saints Youtube video makes meaning in a positive way about the
resurgence of New Orleans. That is powerful leadership. It chooses a different
set snippets of reality and creates a story.
I hope things are quiet this morning on the street of Algeria and Cairo.
the last time those two teams met there were serious troubles.
